Since Christian started preschool, he has only had one incident of being sad or upset in class. The second week of school, I picked Christian up and his teacher let me know that he was asking for me and a bit sad for the last 30 minutes of class. She said that he seemed warm and that maybe he was getting sick.
On the way home, I asked him what he did at school today and his answer was, "I cried, Mommy." Of course, as any mother would, I just about pulled the car over and balled myself, but I held my composure and asked him why he cried. His answer, "I don't like the singing. I don't want to sing songs." Ok, so he wasn't missing me to the point of tears, so I immediately felt better, and as far as problems go, this seemed pretty easy. I'm sure they will only get harder in the future. I simply told him that he didn't have to sing if he didn't want to and that he could just sit quietly and listen to everyone else. That seemed to do the trick because since then he has nothing but love for preschool. Loves it, loves it, loves it. He loves it so much that I decided to sing him up for an additional day. So on Wednesdays he goes to gym class. lol!
Well, if there is something that he loves more than class, it's running around the tree after school. The pictures don't really show the true greatness of this tree, but the branches hang all the way down to the ground and are probably about 20 feet wide. What makes it so great for the kids is that they can easily go into the branches and play. Usually 'play' consists of throwing dried leaves at each other, inevitably resulting in one or two coming out in tears with the parents left to try to piece together the events leading up to the tears since one can't really see what goes on in there, but before the tears are even dry, they are always right back in the mix.
Anyway, Christian has been 'in' the tree about once since school has started. Instead, he just walks around the tree. Occasionally, he runs, but mostly walks. He loves watching the kids and stops and says 'hello' to all the parents standing around the tree waiting. He loves it and I love watching him have so much fun. Definitely a win win.
